China's special representative on climate change Xie Zhenhua has met with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on the sidelines of Paris meeting. The UN chief praised the China-US joint declaration on climate change, issued last November, as a historic breakthrough and a major contribution to the global effort.

He also said China and France's joint declaration this September had laid an important foundation for the Paris meeting. Ban said he expected China to continue to play a positive role in the negotiations.

Xie briefed the UN chief on the negotiations that the Chinese delegation had carried out this week, and also reiterated China's determination to seek consensus and push for success from the conference.
