China Basketball Summit focuses on promotion & youth development

12-11-2015 16:22 BJT

2015 has been a busy year for Chinese basketball with China victorious in the Asian Championship in October and then winning the hosing rights for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. In the wake of this the China Basketball Summit opened in Shanghai attracting several big names of the game world to discuss promotion as well as the development of talent.

The Chinese sports industry is now expanding, presenting more challenges and opportunities.

The NBA enjoyed success here and with a large fan base in the country, they now feel more obligated to create more young talent and make basketball a lifestyle for people in the future.

As the NBA increases the sports profile with young Chinese people, Wang Fei and his team are trying to promote the sport in a different way. In 2003 he started a training camp and in the past 12 years he has seen former national team talent rise though his ranks. They include Ding Yan’yu’hang, who helped China win the Asian Championship earlier this year.

"The system is like a pyramid, and we want to build it from the ground. The steadier the base is, the more likely Chinese basketball has a place on the international stage. Chinese basketball started late and has a weak base. We can offer them correct guidance, and during this process we can find the talents we want,” said Wang Fei, Wang Fei sports cub chairman.
The 2015 Summit will also discuss other topics including the club events, cooperation, and media copyrights distribution in a bid to bring more success to Chinese Basketball.
