The 14th prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held on December14-15 in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou. This meeting aimed to comprehensively enhance cooperation among SCO member states, deepen synergetic development and implement the development strategy and plan proposed at the last meeting in Ufa, Russia.

Over the past 14 years, SCO has experienced rapid development and enlarged its range of cooperation. It not only plays an important role in maintaining regional security but also builds mutual trust and collaboration in economics, trade, investment, finance, energy, infrastructure and human interactions. The development of SCO fully demonstrates that Asian people have the ability to promote trust and regional security through dialogue and negotiations, and accordingly become a community of common destiny.

The last meeting in Ufa convened as SCO member states faced increasing threats and descending economic growth. The Ufa meeting confirmed the development strategy of SCO and guaranteed efficient, practical and healthy development of member states in achieving positive influences on economic growth.

At the Ufa summit, member states passed the SCO Development Strategy until 2025 and showed the way for organization development and member cooperation for the next 10 years. The Zhengzhou conference focused on "the status quo, prospects, and development actions in terms of economy, trade, investment, finance, transportation and humanity cooperation under SCO framework," studied the threats and opportunities of regional cooperation in the above-mentioned areas based on the Silk Road Economic Belt proposal, and combined that proposal with development strategies of each country and mechanisms like the Eurasian Economic Union.

SCO especially needs to promote active cooperation of member states in trade convenience, capacity cooperation, infrastructure construction and finance. Facing the current international and regional situation, the conference reached a consensus and arranged priorities for cooperative fields and missions.

Member countries need to be of one mind to develop. The Zhengzhou meeting offered a new opportunity for teamwork and cooperation by member states and promoted coordination among members states in a more effective way. With expansion, more observer states have created more opportunities for cooperation in the organization. The improvement of international relationships by some observer states has created more favorable conditions for the internal and external development of SCO.

SCO member states are rich in population, vast in territory and abundant in resources. Full cooperation brings more energy to the organization and benefits the people, making an important contribution to world peace and development.

SCO is also open, actively interacting with countries and organizations outside the region and propelling Asian and global peace and prosperity. The 14-year development of SCO has brought huge positive energy for humanity. The continuous steady development of SCO will surely introduce more active elements into mutual trust of Asian countries and growth and promote the common progress of the region.
