Chinese President Xi Jinping is preparing for a new round of state visit -- his first in 2016. His five-day trip to the Middle East will start Tuesday in Saudi Arabia followed by Egypt and Iran, at the invitation of the three countries' heads of state.

During his tour, President Xi will meet his counterparts to map out the future development in bilateral relations.  Earlier, China's Foreign Ministry said the visit seeks to boost constructive engagement with the region.

"The major goal for President Xi's visit is to cement the traditional friendship, strengthen bilateral ties and push forward cultural communication. We believe the visit will have a significant and longlasting impact on China's ties with the three countries and all other countries in the region."

"During the visit, President Xi will engage in deep communication with his three counterparts on bilateral ties and major international issues, seeking to jointly promote peace and stability in the region and the world," said Zhang Ming, vice foreign minister.
