China buzz: Leaking pipeline creates wall of steam in Beijing

01-20-2016 05:06 BJT

A heat pipeline in downtown Beijing burst on Monday night. The leakage on Chang'an Avenue left 420 households without heat, and created misty conditions along part of the road reducing visibility.

Plumbers from the Beijing District Heating Group said low temperatures and increased heating demands were behind the leak. But they reassured shivering Beijingers that the heating will be restored by Tuesday night.
