Hui ethnic group actress Jiang Xin is the star of a hit TV series, but this time she is presenting a traditional dance number representing her ethnic roots.

“This is the first time I’ve performed in front of so many people, so I’m really nervous. I’m trying my best on stage and hope to showcase our ethnic culture,” she said.

Meanwhile, a cross-talk duo from Shaanxi province are busy revising their script. Miao Fu and Wang Shen rose to fame in 2014; they are highly praised for their use of traditional Chinese culture and literary references in their gags.

“It’s a tremendous creative challenge to write new sketches. At the moment, we’re working on putting more references in the bit and showing it to everyone. I think through the rehearsals we get a direct response from the audience and can perfect our performance based on that,” Miao said.

Veteran actor and comedian Bai Kainan and his partners Feng Gong and Xu Fan are familiar faces to the gala stage. This time, they are presenting a comedy sketch about stay-at-home seniors.

“We are getting great feedback from the audience, and I think we did great today. We have performed this show dozens of times, but for the gala stage we still have to make some adjustments. But we have confidence that it will be a hit on the big night,” Bai said.

CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala has been held on Lunar New Year’s Eve every year since 1983, and this year it aims to live up to its reputation and deliver the most entertaining experience possible.

The gala will air live on the evening of February 7 worldwide. In the meantime, there will be five more official rehearsals at the CCTV studio.
