With the Chinese Spring Festival just around the corner, President Xi Jinping has paid a visit to East China’s Jiangxi province. Jinggang Mountain, with a population of only 170,000, is hailed as “the cradle of the Chinese revolution.”

On Tuesday, Xi first went to a martyr’s cemetery to pay tribute to those who fought hard for the founding of the People’s Republic of China. He stressed that the sacrifices made for Chinese revolution should always be kept in mind.

Xi also met with national moral role models and descendants of revolutionary martyrs at Jinggang mountain. He said the Chinese people should learn from the role models for their devotion to their careers and should play their parts in realizing the Chinese dream of a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Xi later visited a small village in the mountainous area, where one fourth of the population lives under the poverty line. He talked to residents and even helped make local rice cakes. He was pleased to learn that living conditions are improving. Before leaving, Xi gave the villagers holiday presents and wished them all a happy new year.

The president traveled to Jiangxi’s capital city of Nanchang Wednesday, visiting a pharmaceutical company and a high-tech laboratory at Nanchang University.
