Full coverage: 2016 Spring Festival

China's shopping scene is hitting a peak ahead of the Lunar New Year. People are preparing to hibernate or travel during the most important festival of the year.  In the countryside, the festival is particularly important.

For the Chinese New Year, shopping for holiday supplies is a major event ahead of the family gatherings.

Many are on the lookout for bargains.

Nowadays, the most Chinese way of bargain hunting is online. But what about those without Internet access? Many e-commerce platforms have opened shopping assistant services in rural areas.

The Commerce Ministry says there were 353 billion yuan in e-commerce deals in 2015 across rural China, double that of 2014. The bulk of those transactions were agricultural produce.
