United Nations special envoy has said the warring parties in Yemen have agreed to a cessation of hostilities to start at midnight April 10.

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed also said peace talks will begin in Kuwai April 18. There have already been several failed attempts to defuse the conflict in Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition began a military campaign in the country a year ago. Their aim was to prevent the Houthi rebels, whom the Saudis claim as being backed by Iran, from taking control.

The United Nations says more than 6,000 people, half of them civilians, have been killed since the start of the Saudi-led military intervention.
