 Cuba’s Bay of Pigs is mostly known for the failed attempt by U.S. backed Cuban exiles to invade and overthrow Fidel Castro in 1961. It ended in a humiliating defeat and helped push Cuba firmly in the Soviet camp at the height of the Cold War. Today the Bay of Pigs faces a new invasion, tourists.

The quiet, tranquil bay has become a popular stopping off point for the more adventurous travelers. The local population has responded by providing accommodations and renting their homes known as Casa Particulares.
