S. Korea parliament seeks to hold hearing with Choi Soon-sil in detention center

12-26-2016 10:21 BJT

A special committee from the South Korean Parliament on Monday visited the detention center, where President Park Geun-hye's confidante Choi Soon-sil is being held in custody.

Lawmakers are seeking to hold a hearing with Choi and two former presidential aids, after the three refused to attend a hearing at the National Assembly.

But the three said that they would not attend a hearing in the detention center either, citing that their testimonies could affect an on-going investigation by independent prosecutors.

The special committee this month has summoned presidential staff members, business tycoons and other figures involved in the scandal involving President Park.
