Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the Syrian government is consulting with the opposition ahead of possible peace talks.
Lavrov did not say where the consultations are taking place or which opposition groups are involved. The Saudi-backed opposition group High Negotiations Committee says it is unaware of any talks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says Russia, Iran, Turkey and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have agreed Kazakhstan's capital Astana should be the venue. Moscow says the negotiations are being prepared, but the exact timing is yet to be decided.
