The Southwest American, August 15, 1945
Here is an issue of The Southwest American, Fort Smith, Arkansas newspaper, dated Wednesday Morning, August 15, 1945. The large headline on the front page reads "Japanese Surrender, Army to Discharge Five Million Men, City Turns Out to Celebrate Victory".
It has one 12-page section which appears to be the whole newspaper with news, sports, editorial page, display advertisements, and classified ads. There is a nice full-page ad for "25 Men Needed Immediately to bring to full strength H Company 6th Inf. Regiment (Fort Smith Unit) Arkansas National Guard.
This large format newspaper measures approximately 16.75" x 21.5". There is some age darkening, edge tears and the front page has some holes at the fold. The paper is somewhat brittle, but there are a number of items that would be suitable for framing.
Due to the size of this newspaper, the scan shows only a portion of the front page.
