L’Oreal (China) CEO Alexis PERAKIS-VALAT

Established in 1997, L’Oreal (China) has had nearly 3,000 employees and created 30,000 employment opportunities. At present, it has 20 famous brands, 1 R&D center, 1 Asia Management and Development Center, 1 Asia-Pacific Operation Department, 2 factories and 3 Distribution Centers. L’Oreal has continuous excellent growth records: growth rate of two digits in 11 consecutive years, and sales amount of RMB 10.7 billion (Euro 1.19 billion) in 2011, annual growth rate of 18%. L’Oreal embraces the sustainable development strategy, which consists of four pillars, that is, being excellent corporate citizen, from sales in China to creation in China, comprehensive growth, recruitment and development of human talents.

L’Oreal (China) attaches importance on the R&D and innovation. In 2005, R&D Center was established and now it has more than 200 scientific research personnel for the frontier study. We have developed the advanced substitute test method - Asia skin rebuilding model, highlighting the skin care with traditional Chinese herbs. We also organized some activities such as L’Oreal Fashion Makeup College to enhance the interaction with the consumers.

With regard to “Enterprise Growth and Social Responsibility”, I think “Responsibility goes with the growth, and growth means responsibility. The bigger the business, the higher the responsibility is”. L’Oreal is dedicated to “science, education and the help to the disadvantaged population”. Being excellent corporate citizen makes the world better. Since 2004, L’Oreal has joined hands with All-China Women's Federation, China Association for Science and Technology and UNESCO, setting up “China Youth Women Scientists Award” for the women devoted to science, 67 outstanding women scientists from 20 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions and Hong Kong were awarded, totally donating RMB 5.10 million; in 2008, L’Oreal solely sponsored “Campaign of protecting the mother river” launched for environmental protection under the cooperation with eight ministries and commissions including the Central Committee of the Communist Young League, and 17 individuals and 11 organizations were commended and the tree planting area was up to 2,200 hectares; to support the education in China, L’Oreal has joined hands with China Youth Development Foundation for nine consecutive years since 2003 to hold the voluntary campus sales for assisting the education under the theme of “affectionate interaction”, totally donating RMB 9 million and assisting 2,300 poverty-stricken university students. L’Oreal is committed to three environmental protection goals, that is, reduce the greenhouse emission by 50%, reduce the water use for every product by 50%, and reduce the wastes for every finished product by 50%.

In 2009, we initiated “L’Oreal (China) Sustainable Development Report”, which is the first country sustainable development report within L’Oreal. This year, we will release the second edition. The latest honors won by us include: “Best Foreign-Funded Enterprises in China” jointly awarded by CCTV-1/ Roland Berger, Green Society Award and Green Practice Award, Top 20 of “Most Reputable Global Enterprises 2011”, and Top 40 Brands 2011.

In view of L’Oreal, all starts from the spirits: “human-oriented”, “exploration, innovation, bold to conquer”, “brave in taking risks and rich in imagination”, “aspire for excellence and surpass the limit” and “entrepreneurship”.
