With the theme of enjoying the fun of music, the 2010 Jing Lang Music Festival, which will create the only permanent site for island music festivals in Beijing, an entirely new landmark for the music village in the Mentougou District, and a super party combining music with sports, will be held from August 27 to August 29 in the Jinglangdao Cultural Sports Park in the Mentougou District of Beijing. Meanwhile, the island where the park is located will also be opened.
According to the organizers, music performances will be held once a week after the island is opened and there will be at least one large music festival there a year. Therefore, the island will gradually become the only permanent site for island music festival in Beijing and a new landmark for the city’s music culture.
It is said that the First Jing Lang Music Festival will feature music groups from Taiwan and Chinese mainland. There are three performance areas, namely the Jing Lang Stage, the Folk Stage and the Amateur Stage. Singers from Taiwan and Chinese mainland bands will jointly perform there. Twenty-seven groups of singers and bands including Xu Wei who is popular both in Taiwan and Chinese mainland, the rock group New Pants, Miserable Faith Band, Xiao He, Mavis Fan, and Chairmen Band will provide a total of 30 hours (1,080 minutes) of exciting live performances for the music fans during the three-day festival.
Besides the three performance areas at the Jing Lang Music Festival, there are also functional areas like an activities area, the exhibition area, the fashion market, the food court, the public area with amusement facilities, among others. In addition, music fans can experience and amuse themselves with variety of entertainment and sports. In the food court, there are night markets from Taiwan providing different kinds of Taiwanese snacks and fruits.
In addition, there are other leisure activities such as the exhibition of teenagers’ popular creative works in the Fashion Market, a type of baseball game with plenty of prizes, the thrilling ejection seat game, the Lomo Wall specially made for Lomo fans to show their photos and exchange experiences, joint music performances by famous bands from Taiwan and the mainland, and some rock music.
It is worth mentioning that the festival is highly interactive, so fans can show their own music talents or see their favorite bands face to face. During the three-day festival, there will be air guitar competitions and amateur shows for no less than 150 minutes every day. Furthermore, fans will have the opportunity to talk with the bands and musicians they like one or two times a day.
The Air Guitar Match, where participants imitate guitar performances without a guitar, will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day and adopts three rounds of elimination matches. The festival will also provide a chance for music fans to express themselves on the stage and talk with bands and musicians. In addition, a mosaic wall for music photography enthusiasts to show the various features of the musicians and audience during the festival was also set up at Jinglangdao.
As one of the highlights of the festival, Jinglangdao will deeply impress countless fans. Jinglangdao is located on the upper reaches of the Yongding River in Beijing’s Mentougou District. The island was naturally formed by the alluvial soils of the river therefore locals call it “Jiangxinzhou” in Chinese, meaning the island in the middle of the river. In order to further purify the water quality of the Yongding River and create a beautiful and comfortable living environment with fresh air for nearby residents, the Mentougou District Committee and the district government decided to implement an overall improvement beginning of 2010. The project has already been included as one of the key landscape architecture improvement projects to be conducted by the district government in 2010, turning the island into a cultural and sports park.
