Wudang Sword

09-27-2010 16:12 BJT

Traceable History

The oldest reputable accounts of Wudang Sword begin with Grandmaster Sung Wei-I around the turn of the 20th century. Sung taught Wudang Sword to Fu Chen Sung and Li Jing Lin and a few others. Some people say he claimed to have learned the art from the kung fu brother of Dong Hai Chuan: the supposed creator of Baguazhang.

According to Chinese legend, the earliest forms of Wudang sword can be traced back to a Daoist priest called Zhang Sanfeng, the creator of Taijiquan and arguably the most important contributor to Wudangquan in history. He is presumed to have lived during the Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty or Ming Dynasty and rumored to be a master of Shaolin White Crane and Snake styles, and an expert in Jian swordplay, also founding Taijijian. Another Daoist legend states that one of Wudangshan's most well-known sword styles, regarded as a treasure of Wudang, the Eight Immortals Sword, was invented by one of the Eight Daoist Immortals, Lu Dongbin himself, hence the style's name.

Modern Day Masters

Inside disciples of Fu Chen Song who learned the Wudang Sword were his son, Fu Wing Fay, who taught it to Bow Sim Mark and his children, including Victor ShengLung Fu, Fu WenLung and Fu MeiLan. Disciples of Li Jing Lin who learned the Wudang Sword were Huang Yuan Xiou and Yang Kui-Shan, who taught modern day Grandmaster Qian Timing.
