Indian farmers have blocked local highways in State of Maha-rash-tra, protesting drops in onion prices.
Angry farmers poured tons of onions on the road. They demanded the government raise onion prices. They say, the low prices make selling onions unprofitable.Local officials have promised to write to the federal government, predicting the prices will be raised within 3 days.
Onions are considered a daily necessity In India. Prices, skyrocketed near the end of last year. That caused the Indian government to order a ban on onion exports, causing prices to drop. Farmers say, they've suffered a major loss due to the move.
