Japan and the US have ended their 4-day military exercises. They are the first simulated training for both countries to conduct their Aegis cruisers, aimed at jointly intercepting tactical ballistic missiles.

Conducted near the US Yokosuka Navy Base in Japan, the two countries used 8 Aegis cruisers in the drill. They also practiced the search, tracing and interception capabilities of the ballistic missiles.

The Japanese government has declined to comment on the drills, saying it is at each country's discretion to have joint military drills with another nation for national defense purposes.

The Japanese foreign ministry says its military exercises, whether involving the US or not, have been held when necessary, within appropriate limits.
