Zhou's remarks came as he answered media questions during a meeting at the Boao Forum for Asia.

He rejects the view that China's 20-percent "deposit reserve ratio" has reached its limit , and he also says the bank is closely monitoring the inflow of hot money from abroad.

Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of China's central bank, said, "We need to use multiple measures to contain surging CPI. Chinese monetary policies have shifted from moderately loose to prudent, and this will go on for a while. As for the reserve ratio, seeing from

international experience, there is no clear standard and limit on that. Besides, there is a surplus of liquidity internationally, if we over-hike the interest rate, it might lead to inflows of international hot money."
