The United States and South Korea have begun investigating claims, that the toxic chemical defoliant, known as Agent Orange was buried at an army base on the peninsular.

Three hundred Kilometers south of Seoul at Camp Carroll, 14 South Korean and 10 U.S. investigators are using ground-penetrating radar to survey a helipad and other areas where it's believed Agent Orange was dumped.

The team also tested underground water in the army base to check if they contained toxic chemical materials.

The commander in charge of installation of the Eighth U.S. Army in the country said that, the army will definitely take purification measures if the investigation result confirms chemicals are buried.

The joint investigation is scheduled to be completed on July 7.

The United States has nearly 30,000 troops stationed in South Korea. The controversy erupted in mid-May, when South Korean media reported that U.S. veterans were ordered to dump the herbicide at Camp Carroll in the late 1970s. The television station said the toxic chemical was used to wipe out foliage in jungles during the Vietnamese War, and it was used years later around demilitarized zones in Korean peninsula.
