China, Kazakstan to upgrade ties

Chinese President Hu Jintao is continuing his visit to Kazakstan. He held discussion with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev to upgrade the China-Kazakhstan strategic partnership to a higher level.

A grand welcoming ceremony was held for the visiting Chinese President in the Kazak capital Astana. Hu Jintao hailed the sound development of bilateral ties while Nazarbayev said Hu's visit is of historical significance.

Both leaders had an extensive exchange of views on regional and international issues of common concern.

After the talks, they signed the Joint Declaration of China and Kazakhstan on Development of All-round Strategic Partnership. Nazarbayev said the signing marks the beginning of a new era in bilateral relations. They also witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements on economy and trade, as well as finance and environmental protection.
