Yemeni soldiers turn to opposition

In Yemen, more and more soldiers have turned to the opposition as a number of military officers disconnected themselves from the army. This adds more uncertainty to the county's future.

Former Yemeni Army Officer said, "We want to build our own forces. And from now on, we have no relations with the government"

About 2,000 soldiers on Wednesday gathered at Change Square in the capital city of Sanaa, calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down. The number of defecting military personnel is increasing in recent days. A government spokesman accused a dissident military commander of leading a coup on August 1st by trying to take over checkpoints in Taiz province.
