A deal to end four decades of armed conflict in the southern Philippines may be forged in the next two years.

The comments were made by the chief negotiator for the country's largest Muslim group, ahead of peace talks later this month in Kuala Lumpur.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front is seeking a "state within a state" solution in southern Mindano, as a condition for ending the fighting. It's an idea President Benigno Aquino may try to incorporate into his own proposal for more autonomy, at the upcoming peace talks.

Negotiations have been taking place for more than a decade, to try to end a conflict that dates back to the 1960s. 120 thousand people have been killed during decades of violence, while 2 million people have fled their homes.
