Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has returned home from medical treatment in Dubai to face rising tension between his civilian government and the military over a memo accusing the country's generals of plotting a coup.

State television on Monday showed Zardari meeting the Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh, the first time Zardari's been seen since he was suddenly flown to Dubai nearly two weeks ago.

Zardari's arrival in Pakistan will help quell speculation about his future.

But officials have not spelled out exactly what was wrong with the president, and whether he is still under threat from the memo scandal that has upset the army and already forced the country's ambassador to the US to resign.
