Afghan Foreign Minister has held bilateral talks with his visiting Japanese counterpart Koichiro Gemba in Kabul.

Following the meeting, Rassoul told the media that Japan is still determined to provide support for Afghanistan's security and development despite the economic problems due to the earthquake, tsunami and floods that have shocked Japan.

In November 2009, Tokyo announced a five-year pledge of 5 billion US dollars to help the war-torn nation strengthen its police force as well as support agriculture and infrastructure projects. The Japanese have abandoned a re-fuelling mission that supported troops in Afghanistan and now only offer humanitarian support.

NATO and international forces are encouraging the rapidly expanding Afghan security forces to take more responsibility ahead of the coalition's 2014 pullout target date.
