Around 230 South Korean soldiers have braved bitterly cold temperatures, as part of a winter military drill designed to test their endurance skills.

Wednesday's exercises were conducted in the cold climate of Pyeongchang, about 180 km east of Seoul - the venue for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Soldiers did push-ups and threw snow on their bodies, before walking through icy cold water. About 10 female members of the special forces also joined the training session.

The annual training course takes place at the coldest time of the year, and is aimed at improving the ability of the special forces to cope with sub-zero temperatures.

In a test of strength and endurance, about 230 half-naked South Korean soldiers brave bitterly cold temperatures and snow as part of a winter military drill on Wednesday.
