For more comments on the issue, we're joined on the phone by He Wenping, research fellow from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing.

Q1: European Union foreign ministers are expected to meet on Friday to put more sanctions on Syria, while on Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council issued a political statement on the Syrian crisis. What are the differences between the two approaches and which one do you think will be more effective?

Q2: What is China's attitude toward the two approaches and which one do you think will receive more support from the Chinese government?
