An Indonesian Air Force aircraft has crashed into a residential area of the capital, Jakarta, killing 9 people and injuring 13 more.

A raging fire erupted after the plane crashed into eight houses. A hospital spokesman said the accident killed 6 people on board and 3 people on the ground. A military official said the Fokker F-27 aircraft was on a routine training flight when it went down.

He said the plane was declared airworthy before the training and skies were clear. He also added the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash. The plane was built in 1958 and used by Indonesia’s Air Force for the past 20 years.
