A group of 20 women all in their seventies or older, who lived through the horrors of World War II, paraded on stage on Thursday night in Haifa as they competed to be crowned Israel’s first "Miss Holocaust Survivor."

The pageant was organised by a charity group which helps needy survivors of the the extermination program. Over 300 women from across the country had registered for the competition. It is estimated that there are 200,000 elderly holocaust survivors living in the country. While the pageant has attracted an audience of some 600, others have criticized the event as "well-intentioned but ultimately misguided."
