East Asian FMs meet in Cambodia on ways of enhancing coop.

East Asian foreign ministers have met in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation. The group also exchanged views on measures to mitigate the negative impact of the European debt crisis on the region.

The meeting was chaired by Cambodian deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong. In his opening remarks, Hor Namhong said the East Asia Summit has made significant progress since its establishment, in five priority areas of cooperation -- energy, education, finance, disaster management and epidemic diseases. He expressed his belief that the meeting will produce fruitful results and deepen East Asian cooperation.

The 2nd East Asian foreign ministers’ conference, attended by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations 10 member states as well as by China and the US also looked into deeper cooperation in disaster management, environment and energy issues. The East Asia meeting is a forum held annually to bring together leaders from 18 countries in East Asia.
