A charter flight from the city of Yanji, in northeast China’s Jilin province, to the DPRK has been launched with the first group of 34 tourists on board. The flight, carrying Chinese visitors for a four-to-five day trip, offers two chances each week to go sightseeing in Pyongyang and Mount Kumgang in the DPRK.

The tourism peak-season in China’s Yanji came one month earlier this year, making the DPRK, which is located very close to the city, a hot destination. To break the transportation bottleneck between the two sides, the tourism authority in Yanji and a DPRK airline decided to open the Yanji-Pyongyang-Mount Kumgang charter flight.

The service is also available to foreign tourists, with the exception of visitors from the DPRK’s southern neighbour, South Korea. The overseas tourists can reserve a ticket ten days ahead of each flight.
