Putin supports Annan's peace plan on Syria

Russia says it suppots UN-Arab League joint envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan on Syria. The remarks were made when Annan is in Russia to seek support in ending the Syrian conflict.

Annan met Russian president Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. Putin said Moscow would try its best to support Annan's mediation efforts to solve the Syrian crisis.

Russia reaffirms its support of Annan's six-point peace plan that emphasizes a political and diplomatic settlement of the crisis. Russia also expressed its opposition to a new resolution being discussed by the Security Council on extending a UN monitoring mission in Syria if it included a threat of sanctions.
