In Afghanistan, people have mixed views on the country’s future once foreign troops depart the country. The fear is that minority groups will take up arms to prevent another Taliban takeover and that members of the Afghan security forces could walk away from the government force and fight with their ethnic leaders.

Wahidullah, former fighter, said, "We want to have peace and prosperity in all of Afghanistan post 2014, so that Afghans can become united and join hands in building this country. We don’t even want to dream about those days, those days of war."

Fahum Dashti, Afghan analyst, said, "Calculating different elements - internal, external, regional, worldwide elements, I do not think that we will go to another civil war. I do share the concern of the people, no doubt about it, but there are some positive points that we can count on, such as the raising of capabilities and abilities and the number of the national security forces."

Sayed Hussain Anwari, Parliament member, said, "The participation of the Taliban in power is not a problem, they are Afghans and they have to have a presence in democratic ways and peace talks without any military presence. But if the scenario changes and they try to come to power by force then there are groups that will not join with the Taliban and the fighting will continue in Afghanistan."
