The second India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) has begun in India’s capital, New Delhi. The meeting aims to forge a stronger bilateral relationship and increase engagement in areas such as infrastructure and high-tech sectors. The Indian side was headed by Deputy Planning Chief, Montek Singh Ahluwalia. While the Chinese side was led by Zhang Ping, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission. Zhang Ping expressed confidence in promoting bilateral cooperation.

Zhang Ping, Chairman of National Development & Reform Commission, said, "China and India are big developing countries in the world, and at the same time, we are close neighbours. I believe that between our two countries, there is great room and potential to enhance cooperation. I am also confident that this dialogue will serve as a platform to promote cooperation and development of our two countries and also to benefit the two peoples."

The two countries are expected to sign agreements to further cement cooperation. India is only the second country after the US with which China holds such a dialogue. And the idea was brought up during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s visit to India in December 2010. The talks follow the meeting between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, during which Singh sought increased Chinese investment in India.
