Mumbai has paused to remember India’s most wounding terrorist attack on the fourth anniversary of the massacre.

A memorial service has been held for the victims of the 2008 attacks at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana at Chowpatty, where a permanent 26/11 memorial has been erected. Brief commemoration events have been held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, some of Mumbai’s most famous landmarks that were targeted by a terrorist group four years ago.

A statue of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who lost his life while leading a commando operation during the attacks, has been unveiled in south India’s Bangalore city.

The 60-hour siege of Mumbai began on 26th November 2008. Attacks on the railway station, luxury hotels and a Jewish cultural centre claimed more than 160 lives. Nine gunmen were also killed.
