Tropical storm Franscisco has brought torrential rain and heavy winds to southern Japan, triggering more evacuations on the disaster-struck island of Izu Oshima. The storm is heading northeastwards and forecasters have issued warnings for the eastern coast, including Tokyo.

Numerous heavy rains, wind and landslide warnings were issues throughout Japan as typhoon Francisco, the 27th typhoon to pass near Japan this year, makes its way along eastern pacific coast.

Heavy rains of over 600 millimeters in 72 hours were recorded in southern Japan, rivers overflowed and hundreds were evacuated.

Municipal government of Izu Oshima Island issued an evacuation advisory for all parts of the island as Francisco approaches the island south of Tokyo. 31 people were killed and 12 are still missing from land slides when typhoon Wipha hit the island last week. Authorities warn that there may be more landslides expected.

Metrological agency issued heavy rain and tidal warning along the eastern coast of Japan, including Tokyo.

Fishermen have already prepared for the arrival of the typhoon, lifted all their ships ashore and advised people to go home early on Friday evening. But another concern is for the people living in the mountainside - they expect some landslide in some areas and were advised to evacuate.

Rain and wind from Francisco is expected to intensify from around midnight Friday to Saturday morning, as it passes south of Tokyo. Metrological agency said precipitation of over 200 millimeters is expected in greater Tokyo region.
