Norway won't destroy Syria's chemical weapons

10-26-2013 23:07 BJT Special Report: Crisis in Syria |

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry has refused to take a stock of Syria’s chemical weapons agents, to be destroyed in Norway.

The United States reportedly requested Norway to bring in and dispose of up to 500 tons of the deadly nerve agent Sarin, but the Norwegian government said it does not possess the necessary expertise and facilities for destroying the weapons or the chemical agents.

Meanwhile, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says inspectors in Syria have so far visited most of country’s 23 disclosed chemical weapons' sites.

In an earlier statement, the OPCW said that its teams were working with Syrian authorities to prepare an initial declaration, which will include a general plan to destroy the country’s chemical arsenal.
