Chinese leaders urge ethnic unity, sound economic growth

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have joined in panel discussions with representatives at the ongoing annual session of China’s top political advisory body.

In a panel focused on minority ethnic groups, President Xi said any words or actions that might damage the country’s ethnic unity should be resolutely opposed. He also called on members to together build strong and thick walls to defend social stability, and ethnic and national unity.

Xi also added that every effort should be made to accelerate social and economic development among China’s minority ethnic groups and in ethnic areas.

Meanwhile, Premier Li Keqiang joined in other panel discussions with political advisors from the country’s economic and agricultural sectors. He stressed that China must deepen reforms and maintain stable and sound economic growth as it continues to deal with a complicated economic situation.
