China, Japan, S. Korea trade ministers meeting

The seventh meeting of trade ministers of China, Japan, and South Korea was held in Seoul on Sunday. The meeting covered topics of cooperation in the region, and a potential joint free trade deal.

China, Japan and South Korea represent 18.6 percent of the global economy as measured by gross domestic product. They started their trilateral meetings at the ministerial level in 2002.

This time, the three countries held a meeting of a joint committee consisting of representatives from government, business and academics to study a free trade agreement.

The Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming said, "Today, the trade ministers held a very pleasant talk, and made preparations in the field of commerce for the coming meeting between the three countries' heads. We mainly discussed the joint free trade region, investment protection of the three countries, and how to settle the talk mechanism, as well as creating the mechanism to support the head meeting. "

The three trade ministers also discussed some international issues, such as enhancing the cooperation under the framework of the Group of 20 and Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation. They also said they would cooperate before the G20 holds summits this year.
