Trade tensions between the US and China are beginning to heat up again. In its latest move, a U.S. trade panel gave the final approval for combined duties of more than 200 percent on steel wire products from China.

The trade panel said there was ample evidence that U.S. producers have been materially injured by imports of concrete steel wire strand, subsidized by the Chinese government. Meanwhile, they believe those products were sold in the U.S. at below market prices. US steel companies have brought a number of cases against China in recent years, covering a variety of steel products.

Meanwhile the US Commerce Department has refused to investigate currency charges in previous countervailing duty cases, despite saying it would reexamine them, if there were legal grounds to launch such a probe.
