ECFA to be signed today

Delegations from the mainland and Taiwan are holding a fifth round of talks on the economic co-operation framework this morning.

The long-awaited Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement is expected to be signed today. In the previous four rounds of negotiations, twelve agreements were signed. These covered cooperation in the fields of tourism, transportation and criminal enforcement.

Analysts say the ECFA will enhance cross-Strait economic cooperation to mutual benefit. Agreements relating to the protection of intellectual property rights are also expected to be signed today.
