Starting today (Wednesday) mainland travallors can use their China UnionPay cards to withdraw cash via ATMs in Taiwan. This is expected to help spur spending during their travels on the island.

In addition to boosting Taiwan's economy, the new service will also lift participating banks' revenues and profits, derived from service charge. Aside from drawing cash in Taiwan currencies at the ATMs, UnionPay card holders will also be able to obtain cash advances and account balance inquiries in Taiwan.
