The launch of the new high-speed rail between Shanghai and Nanjing not only brings neighboring cities closer, but will also boost the regional economy. The tourism and service sectors are set to benefit from extra visitors.

As the high speed rail between Shanghai and Nanjing welcomes its first passengers, travelling in the region has suddenly become a whole lot more convenient. Analysts say the new train service will also benefit the local economy.

Shanghai and Nanjing have long been popular tourist destinations. But it used to take travellers around 3 hours to get from one city to the other. The arrival of the high-speed rail has changed all this.

Mrs. Mei said "I live in Shanghai, and my home is very close the railway station. As the high-speed rail starts operating, I will travel to Nanjing more often."

The high speed train will bring renewed opportunities for the tourism and service sectors of surrounding cities. Suzhou is one popular destination set to benefit from the masses of visitors expected to take advantage of the new service. The city will maximize the opportunity to further develop its economy.

Yan Li, Mayor of Suzhou City said "The high speed train will boost the city's service sector, and increase the service sector's contribution to the city's economy. We will further develop our tertiary industries, including finance, logistics and outsourcing, and enhance our relationship with Shanghai."

Cities in the region will take this opportunity to speed up their economic development, and take advantage of the benefits brought on by the new rail service.
