Japanese auto giant Toyota says around 270,000 of its cars sold worldwide have faulty engines. It says the defective engine could stall while the car is moving. But there have been no reports of accidents so far.
Of the vehicles affected, some 180,000 were sold overseas and the rest in Japan. They include the popular Crown, and seven models of luxury Lexus sedans.
Japanese news reports say the company is considering a recall. The quality lapse is the latest in a disastrous year for the car manufacturer. It follows massive global recalls for faulty gas pedals in January.
