July marks two years since Taiwan opened up to Chinese Mainland tourists. And the figures show, it's been lucrative.
According to the latest statistics released by the Taiwan tourism department, around 3500 Mainland residents visit Taiwan every day. In the last 2 years, they've brought 60 billion new Taiwan dollars to the island.
The most significant beneficiary has been the aviation industry, witnessing monthly earnings increases of 2 billion new Taiwan dollars. The hotel sector follows closely behind. Taiwan hopes the number of mainland visitors could reach more than 1 million a year.
