Taiwan plans to relax regulations on tourists from the Chinese mainland, as a boost to the service sector.
Since 2008, Taiwan has only allowed travellers to visit in tour groups from the Chinese mainland. Early next year, mainland residents will be able to visit the island without being part of a tour group.
Taiwan plans to begin implementing the relaxed regulations in selected municipalities or provinces. An influx of tourists will boost the island's tourism and service sectors. On the news, Taiwan's stock exchange's tourism sub-index rose 2.4 percent.
