Early figures show, that hosting the World Cup paid off for South Africa. South African Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, said the 2010 World Cup would most likely contribute 5 billion US dollars to the local economy.
It created some 1.3 million jobs. And attracted football fans from around the world. The World Cup also boosted investment in infrastructure contributing to longer term growth.
