Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says the country's economy is developing in line with expectations. He made the remarks during a weekend tour of Northwest China's Sha'anxi province. The premier called for confidence in the domestic economy, as well as preparation for the economic difficulties ahead.

Wen Jiabao says the economy is developing in the direction set by the macro-economic controls so far this year. He points out that progress has not come easily, and warns the country must fully anticipate the difficulties ahead.

Visiting an automaker in Shaanxi province, Wen Jiabao reiterated the government will maintain continuity and stability of its macro economic policies to ensure favorable external conditions for companies. But businesses in turn must improve quality, develop new products and expand their market. The premier also stressed the importance of consumption.

Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier said "A steady consumption market is closely associated with a steady economy. The global economy is recovering, but at a slow pace. There are many uncertainties. We should expand domestic demand while stabilizing overseas demand. "

The premier says the government's responsibility is to ensure steady and relatively fast economic growth, and increase individual income.

He also visited a high-tech institute, saying that sophisticated technology cannot be bought but that Chinese companies should invest in development. The premier also took time to visit a residential community, providing affordable housing for low-income groups. He says the government must speed up construction of affordable housing to ease difficulties for low-income families.
