China's first auto show featuring Chinese designed vehicles, has closed in Beijing. During the five day show, China's core auto technologies were on display.

Over 150 cars from 16 companies including BYD, CHERY, Brilliance Auto, and Dongfeng Auto are being exhibited at the China Achievements Expo for Self-innovated Auto Technology and Products.

A fifth of the vehicles on display are either energy efficient cars or cars fueled by new energy.

Yin Yongyue, President of Chery Automobile Co. said "We are trying to be an enterprise with technologies. We will put innovation on top of our priority list. Over 2 billion yuan will be used every year in research and development."

As a forerunner of China's electric cars, BYD is displaying its electric taxi at the exhibition.

The car batteries can be re-charged more than 2,000 times. And every charge can carry the car at least 300 kilometers.

Wang Jianjun, Sales Manager of BYD said "Batteries used by the car are advanced at least two to three years ahead of the world technology."

Organisers hope shows like this can minimize the gap between Chinese auto makers and their foreign competitors.

Xu Bingjin, Chief of CEATEC said "China's self-innovated brands are now taking a collective effort to accelerate core technological updates. I believe the gap between our own brands and the international ones will be minimized in years."

China is also urging its auto industry to enhance technology and foster domestic brands at the Expo.

It stressed that boosting innovative capacity is pivotal to economic restructuring and shifting the economic growth pattern.
