Minister of Commerce Chen Deming says China will open wider, ruling out concerns the country is becoming less welcoming of foreign investment.
In an article published in the Sunday Financial Times, the minister says China remains the top destination for foreign investment. He points out that investment into China fell by only 2.6 percent in 2009 compared with a 40 percent drop globally. He also acknowledges the importance of foreign direct investment in contributing capital, advanced technology and business know-how.
He says China wants to make better use of the knowledge and expertise of multinationals to upgrade its own industries. The minister notes the world economy is at a crucial stage of restructuring, and China's openness will benefit the world.
